craniosacral and myofascial techniques
Prolonged stress, physical traumas, excessive strain, surgical operations, habits involving incorrect posture and movement, all these promote the development of body tension, causing pain, restrictions in movement, swelling and chronic fatigue.
Treatment with myofascial and craniosacral techniques helps to release those tensions which cannot be treated through straightforward relaxation, increasing a sense of well-being and the natural processes of recovery of the body.
The myofascial and craniosacral techniques are devised to work on the body and act on certain nerve receptors present in the myofascia (a combination of mys, myos = muscular tissue, and fascia = connective tissue) tissue which literally connects, that is, holds together the various parts of the body forming it into a whole unit, in which painful or invalidating limits might develop following prolonged physical or emotional stress and traumas.
The treatment is carried out by exercising manual pressure, lightly or intensely according to necessity, on the soft tissue of the body, that is, on the muscular and connective tissue. Particular attention is paid to the skull, to the sacrum, to “rhythms” and to the internal micro-movements of the body perceivable through contact with the same body tissues.
THE EFFECTS OF THE TREATMENT
By exercising a delicate touch, the body is induced to release local and general tensions; in this way, besides the relief felt, a profound state of well-being and relaxation is created, since this helps the spontaneous process which tends to totally rebalance the psycho physiological functions of the whole body. This approach promotes the release of those emotional tensions which, if inhibited or not expressed, favour or maintain excessive muscular tension and the subsequent limitations (somato-emotional release). More profound pressure, on the other hand, acts on trigger points, places where the tissues appear to have thickened, which might determine rigidity and pain, locally or in other parts of the body (e.g. headaches, pain in the joints).
Success in the use of craniosacral and myofascial techniques is based mainly on the skill of the operator in regulating touch, that is, on his ability to apply the listening touch and therefore to continually adapt his intervention according to how the client’s body tissues respond to treatment.
WHO DO THEY APPLY TO
The myofascial and craniosacral treatment lends itself to truly combining body and mind in the process of adjustment and recovery.
It is beneficial to people of all ages, from infants to senior citizens, in the presence of pain and in moments of psycho-physical difficulty, but even in the healthy to promote well-being and self care. It is particularly recommended in the treatment of:
muscular tension and pain (local and diffuse)
headaches, cervical pain, back pain
pain in joints
after-effects of physical traumas such as accidents and surgical operations, etc.
It is also valuable for:
alleviating chronic stress and anxiety by generating profound relaxation
intervening through a non pharmaceutical approach when other treatments might be dangerous or not recommended (pregnancy, recent operations, allergy or intolerance to certain drugs, etc.)
stepping up the natural process of recovery.
WHAT’S MORE …
Treatment may constitute a course on its own, but it can also be integrated into other types of therapeutic itineraries, pharmaceutical or otherwise. In this case it is used as an instrument of support to aid the therapy in course.
This treatment does not involve manipulation directly on the joints; it is a method which indirectly induces the body to self-improvement.
The myofascial and craniosacral techniques can be found in the programme of Education of the Body and of Movement, and are used and integrated into the D.I.S.Co. Method® (Deep Impact Structural Coaching).
